The City Events team are responsible for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of the Council's annual Festivals and Events programme within the City of Aberdeen.  They also offer support and advice to a wide variety of other events organised within the City

Examples of events the team directly deliver are Aberdeen's Highland Games, Freedom of the City Ceremonies, 3 week 50+ Festival, 50+ Outdoor Activities Programme, Tea Dances, Aberdeen's Singing Chorus, Aberdeen's Tartan Day, British Armed Forces and Veterans Day and the Winter Festival

Highland Games and Gatherings, which take place from Cowal to Tomintoul and all points in between, are a unique mix of the sporting, the cultural and the social. They usually comprise a program of field and track events, piping and Highland dancing competitions and 'heavy events' like the tug-o-war, the hammer throw and tossing the caber. The competitive element is a major attraction in its own right but when combined with the spectacle of Highland dancers and pipers and the colour and grandeur of the Scottish scenery which forms their backdrop, Highland Games become a must on any visitor's Scotland itinerary. Some Highland Games gatherings attract thousands of spectators, but most are on a far smaller scale, and many of them are still genuine community events
